My husband is on camera a lot for work calls and has dreamed of having a nice accent wall in the background he would be proud to showcase instead of always blurring out the camera background or using a filter. His office was stale, lacked personality and wasn’t a space you really wanted to spend time in. He works really hard and deserves an office that inspires him, makes him feel good and draws him into the space – and I was on a mission to give him just that!
The Before
Not only did I want to do a really cool accent wall, I wanted to give the whole room a much needed refresh. The first step was removing all the old trim that had been painted over 100 times, ripping out the floors and putting in new LVP, and adding some doors to close off the closet.
Once the floors were ripped out I painted the walls with a coat of fresh paint. I used Pale Oak by Benjamin Moore for the walls and Chantilly Lace (also BM) for the ceiling and trim. I then prepped the floors by removing any staples, patching any holes and cleaning all debris. Then I was ready to install the new flooring followed by new trim!
For the accent wall, I wanted to do something bold and dramatic. Something moody, masculine and beautiful that would make a statement in his office and also be seen in the background on his camera when on work calls. I picked up some paint samples from Benjamin Moore and ultimately decided to go with Witching Hour, a dark and moody blue – it’s basically a shade of black with slight cool blue undertones, giving off the slightest midnight navy color while still being pretty neutral.
Once I painted the wall I added some ladder shelves and decorated them with contrasting colors and warm wood tones that complimented the paint. I added some matching dark navy curtains and some masculine artwork as the focal point above a beautiful walnut credenza with some accent pieces. It really brought everything together and completed the space as I had envisioned!
The After
Can you even believe this is the same space?!
If you are thinking about doing a moody and masculine accent wall in a space in your home, I hope this brings you some inspiration or the push you need to go for it! I love how this space transformed from a stale and boring room with no character to a moody, masculine, yet beautiful space that gives a “wow factor” when you walk in. My husband loves his new home office and gets so many compliments from his coworkers!
Materials I Used:
- Cairo Oak by COREtec LVP Flooring
- Pale Oak by Benjamin Moore (walls)
- Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore (trim & ceiling)
- Witching Hour by Benjamin Moore (accent wall)
Thanks for your support and following along in this project! I hope you found it useful or it sparked some inspiration in your own home.
